Rain Friend
When the skies are bright and sunny,
and the days are long and fair,
and the smell of lilac dances on the breeze,
I can head out to the bike path,
and the moment I am there,
I will find a dozen friends with utmost ease.
When my face lights with a smile,
and my heart is filled with joy,
and the world seems filled with happiness and cheer,
I can walk along the sidewalk,
without acting brash or coy,
and a dozen of my friends will soon appear.
But when the sky grew cloudy,
and the sunlight hid in gloom,
and the air turned wet and cold with threats of rain,
then I found myself alone,
like a limp forgotten bloom,
which is plucked and then discarded with disdain.
Only you stood by my side,
in my sorrow and my hurt,
to comfort me and help to ease my pain.
When the world seemed cold and dark,
you did not quail or desert,
but stood with me and held me in the rain.
